Leisa Nathan (Ngāti Whātua, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahu, Ngāti Raukawa, and Ngāti Maniapoto) is the current principal and managing director of Ochre Business Solutions, an education provider located in Auckland.
Leisa has extensive experience in business education, financial literacy, and business mentoring. She coaches in all areas of business planning, business management, human resources, leadership, marketing, business systems, financial management, governance training, resource management, and export. Her specialist areas are accounting and finance, taxation, and commercial law.
Leisa is currently a facilitator for ATEED’s Regional Business Partner Network delivering financial management workshops as part of NZTE’s Business Capability Programme. She is also a facilitator and coach for the He Papa Pūtea Financial Capability Programme, operated by Māori Women’s Development Inc. In addition to this, from 2003 to the present she has taught the Certificate in Small Business Management (NZQA Level 4), and from 2009 to the present she has taught both the Certificate in Applied Small Business Growth and Development (NZQA Level 5) and the Certificate in Money Management (NZQA Level 3) at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. Leisa also currently acts as a Facilitator and Coach of Financial Literacy, Business Entrepreneurship, Home Ownership Education programmes for Whānau Ora. Finally, Leisa has been a Business Facilitator to Te Wānanga o Aotearoa where she trained others to deliver the Small Business Management and First Steps to Business programmes.
As a business mentor, Leisa continues to aid numerous business owners across a range of industries. She has been an accredited business mentor for Te Puni Kōkiri’s Māori Business Facilitation Service in the Tāmaki region, as well as being a mentor and facilitator for Māori Women’s Development Inc and AUT’s ‘Grow Young Māori Entrepreneurs’ programme. Leisa has also worked as a business mentor and facilitator for Trade NZ, where she mentored businesses in the export process.
Leisa holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce (Commercial Law) from the University of Auckland, as well as a National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education, a Certificate in Small Business Counselling, and a Diploma in Adult Education from Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. In addition to these qualifications, Leisa is a Chartered Accountant.
Leisa has broad experience in many industries in both the public and private sectors, but she specialises in the property and construction, creative, education, natural/organic products, film and television, and tourism industries.
Since 2004, Leisa has been the managing director of Ochre Business Solutions, an education provider based in Auckland. Ochre builds skills in the areas of financial literacy and home ownership, as well as business entrepreneurship and governance. Her previous experience includes being a Service Manager for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, an Account Manager at Trade New Zealand, a Business Manager for the Waitematā District Health Board, an Auditor for KPMG Auckland, and a Financial Analyst for the Waitakere City Council.
Leisa is a member of the Institute of Directors and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand and Australia. She has previously been a member of the Auckland Māori Accountants Network, the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, the Auckland Māori Business Network, the Institute of Accredited Business Consultants, and the Auckland Evaluation Group.
